Online
tutoring is a program designed to assist students beyond what is reasonably
available through your instructor. As this is a paid service, we will utilize a
semi-private discussion board within Moodle viewable only by those students that have
registered for the tutoring program. We can also communicate via email;
however, the discussion board within Moodle is preferred so that everyone in the program can
benefit from each other’s questions.
I
will check the discussion board for your questions multiple times throughout
the week. I will also check on Saturdays and/or Sundays, knowing that many of
you do your work on the weekends. However, please do not wait until
Monday to ask for help on an assignment that is due that evening, as I
cannot guarantee immediate response.
Please
note that this service does not work for everyone. Due to the asynchronous
nature of the discussion board mechanism, you typically will not receive an
immediate response to your questions. Those who are most successful in this
program have the ability to start their work early in the week so that we have
an opportunity for meaningful discussions online. There will often be several
back-and-forth posts before we get through an issue.
The
tutoring service can be utilized to assist you with difficult topics, homework
assignments, computer projects, etc. – basically, for any question related to
the course material. However, please note that I cannot confirm your answers
for assignments prior to the due date as this would be unfair to those who do
not have access to the tutoring discussion board.
